WENZELS GENERAL STORE on Chicago Avenue in Foley Alabama was the inspiration for this 5x7 acrylic painting. I find painting old historic subjects most interesting. Digging through old historic documents and files I have found many wonderful subjects. #53

CHRISTIAN CHURCH as viewed in 1906 at the corner of Government and Clarborne. 5x7 Acrylic on canvas panel.

IN 1856 THIS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH was completed and the combined second and third Mobile, Al. congregations merged and moved into their new building. It stood on the corner of N. Jackson and Michael Street up until the mid 1890's. This 5x7 painting is just one of a number of similar subjects that can be found in my affordable painting collection on my web site. Please visit!

IN 1909 LOUIS METZGER moved into this new house on the southeast corner of Government and Michigan Avenue by Architect C. Hutchisson. Stucco and a tile roof with fluted columns and two dormer windows were on the original home. A large carriage house stood at the back of the property. When Government became a highway the house was moved around the corner to Michigan Avenue where it stands today. Much of the original was removed. The Acrylic 5x7 painting is on canvas panel.

MOBILE HARBOUR SHIP 15x20 This painting shows just one of 100's of sailing ships with all kinds of cargo that were loading and unloading at Mobile before the hurricane of the early 1900's that destroyed much of the wharfs. SOLD

BANANA PLANT 20X30 NFS This painting was inspired from a plant in our backyard. Our son and daughter-in-law was fond of banana plants as my wife and I are also. I say was because our son died in a traffic accident shortly after he and his family moved into their new home in the spring of 2005. The construction of their home was slowed by hurricane Ivan in the fall of 2004. I have painted banana plants before but this one holds a special place in my heart and was a house warming gift for our sons family. SOLD
