BANANA PLANT 20X30 NFSThis painting was inspired from a plant in our backyard. Our son and daughter-in-law was fond of banana plants as my wife and I are also. I say was because our son died in a traffic accident shortly after he and his family moved into their new home in the spring of 2005. The construction of their home was slowed by hurricane Ivan in the fall of 2004. I have painted banana plants before but this one holds a special place in my heart and was a house warming gift for our sons family. SOLD

THE MEN FROM KENYAThe Azalea Trail Run in Mobile was again dominated by the Kenya men. However there were fewer women from Kenya than in past years. I always enjoy setting on our front porch and watching the runners go by. This acrylic painting is 5x7 and purchasing information can be found on my web page at http://.wwwderaldeastman.com.

LONG GONE 6x6This old downtown Mobile business was lost due to the construction of the DT loop. As I recall it was in the area of what is now water street near the RSA building. Acrylic on board from my very affordable small paintings.
50 YEAR SCHS REUNIONThis painting was from a 2003 scene of a group of old men and women from a 1953 high school class. Approximately 45 out of a class of 65 were in attendance. I had not seen many of those graduates since June 1953. Very few still live in Scott City, Ks. The Acrylic on Arches is 15 x 20 and available for purchase on my web or blog pages.

DUFFY'S OAK 11X30
This oak tree is estimated to be over 350 years old and is known as the oldest living thing in Mobile, Alabama. Up until around the 1880's it was called The Seven Sisters Oak because of its 7 major branches. About that time the mayor of Mobile lived near the tree and thus the name was changed. It has managed to live through many hurricanes including Katrina without suffering any major damage. I continue to update my web page www.deraldeastman.com.

Derald Eastman has been interested in art since a very young age. His sixth grade teacher recognized this and gave him encouragement. As did his high school art teacher Don Musick. His formal art training was as a student at the University of Kansas majoring in Painting/illustration. Where he was closely tutored by Jack Armstrong. Having been employed in advertising for a number of years only recently has he been able to seriously pursue his artistic interest.
He pays painstaking attention to the composition of his paintings; in particular with the use of negative and positive areas which he considers of primary importance. These days he said, ”he paints with more economical means by suggesting detail rather than rendering it.”
As a member of the Alabama art community Derald’s work has been recognized in shows and received numerous awards. In the past few years he has focused his painting primarily in acrylics as well as watercolor.
